Mindfulness and Nature Connection
“Remembering our interdependence.”
How will you rise to the calling of these times?
Our planet is in the midst of a great unraveling of tumultuous change. The human species has come to a tipping point of disconnection to the very source to which we depend, our Mother Earth. For most this is not our fault, but a lineage of extractive ways of relating to the world, being passed down from generation to generation. A disharmony in our belonging and ability to live in reciprocity with the very earth that sustains us. We feel the pain of injustice in our hearts and instead of allowing that pain to lead us into the healthy action of connection, we so often get burdened down by feeling alone, helpless and disconnection. We forget we are integral parts of the fabric of life who are being asked now more then ever to take a stand with those who also feel the call in their heart and soul. So how do we take a stand, firmly rooted in our hearts knowing when the fires seem to burn all around us?
“If the world is to be healed through human efforts, I am convinced it will be by ordinary people, people whose love for this life is even greater than their fear.”
―Joanna R. Macy
I have wrestled with this question for a long time and have felt both the numbing defeat of pretending I don’t have choice and the overwhelm of trying to go it alone. Ultimately I feel it is not up to any one individual or even a collective of humans to come up with the solutions for our times. I believe the change will come from the hearts of those beings who are so devotedly in love with life that they are openly willing to Listen to the wisdom of our planet and how our human species can learn to belong. Each of us came into existence with a unique genius to be expressed in this life.
I believe it is through our love and our genius that we get to understand our belonging as interdependent beings. Learning to listen to the wisdom of our bodies as tools of resonance to this remembrance and harmony we wish to express and share with others.
Its through learning to listen to our own unique inherited systems that we begin to uncover and remember who we truly are and how we desire to relate with the world around us.
Nature and Me
Through my personal experience and connection with nature, I have learned the most valuable lessons about myself and life. From an early age I have been drawn to the “wild” and “untamed” places. Its become clear throughout my life that the more time I spend listening and learning with the natural world, the more confidence, acceptance, balance, love, and trust, I grow within myself. The process of learning from nature is a life long joy, and I feel lucky to find ways in sharing the wisdom gained through my experiences.
What can you expect from a nature-based session?
Outdoor sessions are typically longer (90 minutes) and held in a variety of beautiful outdoor locations.
Elements of a session may include:
Mindfulness Meditation (Helps to reconnect with self and natural world).
Movement practices (walk, hike).
Somatic awareness inquiry (Hakomi).
Earth-based connection practices (“The work that reconnects”).
Who’s it for?
Honestly, it benefits everyone!
In particular, I have noticed its great for those with lots of energy or who get bored easily. Its a great way for children who have been in school all day to get outside and move. Walking is also a form of bilateral stimulation helping the mind/body processes information and reduce stress.
