Mindfulness and Nature Connection
“Remembering our interdependence.”
When was the last time you were able to slow down and feel truly present and connected?
Our planet is going through a time of great unraveling, and because we humans are not separate from the earth we to are experiencing the strain of immense pressure. This process of regeneration although necessary can leave us overwhelmed and at a loss for where to turn. In such difficult times the question arises: how do we stand firmly rooted at a time when fires seem to burn all around us.
“If the world is to be healed through human efforts, I am convinced it will be by ordinary people, people whose love for this life is even greater than their fear.”
―Joanna R. Macy
I have wrestled with the question for some time and feel that the answers lie within and all around us. Those who listen, adapt. The times call for a deeper understanding of our place and belonging on this earth. We are here at this time for a reason and so, it is our responsibility as human beings to learn from a planet which gives us everything.
I believe it is through a process of remembering our interdependence with nature that we recognize our place and role in this lifetime. When we tune into our bodies wisdom ways and its relationship to life around us, we find the peace and healing constantly seek.
Somatic practices rooted in mindfulness and nature connection help create a container for these forms of listening helping to regulate our nervous system and find balance in the present moment. Once our mind/body is able to relax and let down its “protective mode” we become aware of a deeper knowing and healing relationship to life.
Nature and Me
Through my experience and connection with nature, I have learned the most valuable lessons about myself and life. From an early age I have been drawn to the “wild” and “untamed” places. Its become clear throughout my life that the more time I spend building “right” relationships with our natural world, the more confidence, acceptance, balance, love, and trust, I grow within myself. We humans are a reflection of our environment and completely interdependent with nature. This is not just for our survival but also in order to truly enjoy this precious gift of life!
I feel so much gratitude to have grown up in Santa Barbara and call it home. Whether at 1 years old eating sand at the beach or 36 exploring our abundant backcountry, nature has always been a place for healing, solace, and exploration. Getting to share my combined love for nature while helping others along their healing journey is a dream come true!
What can you expect from a nature-based session?
Outdoor sessions are typically longer (90 minutes) and held in a variety of beautiful outdoor locations.
Elements of a session may include:
Mindfulness Meditation (Helps to reconnect with self and natural world).
Movement practices (walk, hike).
Somatic awareness inquiry (Hakomi).
Earth-based connection practices (“The work that reconnects”).
Who’s it for?
Honestly, it benefits everyone!
In particular, I have noticed its great for those with lots of energy or who get bored easily. Its a great way for children who have been in school all day to get outside and move. Walking is also a form of bilateral stimulation helping the mind/body processes information and reduce stress.
